This page has our group TIP project on it. Our overall lesson covers types of poetry. Everyday throughout the week the students will learn about a different type of poetry, structured, free verse, and rhyming. They will construct poems after every lesson and choose one of the poems they wrote to share with the class at the poetry slam at the end of the week.
To learn structured poetry students will listen to the podcast and then construct a poem in one of the formats presented. The handout is provided for extra guidance. Podcast: Handout:
Using the handout students will learn what a free-verse poem is. Students will go on Kidspiration and select 15 words to use to create a free-verse poem. Handout:
Students will explore the world of rhyming words by reviewing what rhyming words are, looking at rhyming poetry, and performing activities on the Smartboard. Handout:
Students will watch the video on poetry slam etiquette. They will then take turns presenting their poems to the class practicing the skills they learned in the video. Students can use the handout to remind them of skills. Video: Poetry Slam Handout:
